Certification authorisation

What a Part-145 organisation issues to its certifying staff, and what must be maintained to keep it.

Purpose of the authorisation

A Part-145 approved maintenance organisation issues a certification authorisation to its qualified staff (145.A.35). It states the scope: categories, aircraft types, any limitations.

The holder may only exercise privileges within the limits of this authorisation and of the licence.

Keeping the authorisation

  • Recent experience: a minimum period of maintenance activity within the reference period set by the regulation.
  • Continuation training, including human factors and technical or procedural changes.
  • Competence assessment by the organisation according to its exposition (MOE) procedures.

Frequently asked questions

Does my authorisation follow me if I change employer?

No. The authorisation is issued by a specific organisation. A new employer assesses your competence and issues its own authorisation.

General information only. It does not replace the EASA regulatory texts, your organisation's exposition (MOE/MTOE) or the instructions of your competent authority.
