Documentation and CRS

Principles of maintenance documentation and the certificate of release to service (CRS).

Maintenance data

Every task is performed using applicable, current maintenance data (145.A.45): manufacturer manuals, airworthiness directives, approved data. The task is recorded as it progresses.

The CRS

The certificate of release to service (CRS) is issued by appropriately authorised certifying staff once all requested maintenance has been properly carried out (145.A.50). For a component, release is documented on the EASA Form 1.

Good practices

  • One signature = one task actually performed or checked.
  • Record the reference and revision of the data used.
  • Never sign for a colleague or in advance.
  • Report any unfinished task at handover.
